Polk Township Vol. Fire Dept.

Pumper/Tanker 844

Pumper/Tamker 844 from Darley Equipment in Melrose Park, IL. It is a beautiful bright yellow 1997 Freightliner FL80 pumper/tanker fire truck. At the time, it was the heaviest single axle model available from Freightliner. With the power of the 300 H.P. Cat diesel coupled with the smooth shifting push button transmission, it is the smoothest and most responsive fire truck we have ever had. It's tight handling and smooth ride allow the driver to concentrate on his mission and not worry about 'wrestling' the truck all over the road. Although it is the biggest and tallest fire truck we have, it's large cab has easily accessible controls and great all-around visibility.

844 is stationed at our Station 2 in Teegarden. It replaced a 1977 Chevrolet pumper/tanker which was retired after 20 years of faithful service.
