About Us and a Map to Tyner Fire Station
Polk Township is located in the northwest corner of Marshall County, Indiana. We are approximately 23 miles south
of South Bend, IN. The township has an area of 49 square miles
with 70% of the area being agriculture, wild land, and open space undeveloped
property. The remaining area is 28% residential and 2% business/industry. Polk
Township has 2,784 residents.
Polk Township Fire Department was established in 1977 by late
Trustee Clark Dare. Our main station is in Tyner with a sub-station in Teegarden.
We protect our residents by providing many quality services and are well-trained in
structural fire suppression, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, and
wildland fire suppression. We also respond to all medical calls. Our
firefighters, First Responders, and EMTs provide medical first response and are
Basic Life Support(BLS) certified. Our Rescue 863 and Quick Medical Response 860
are equipped with defibrillators, oxygen, and basic first aid equipment.
We currently have 18 firefighters: Chief Joe Clady, Asst.
Chief Dave McCallum, Ray Platz, Pat Grossman, Brian Jankowski, Rich Pranger,
Mark Shafer, John Einhorn, Jesse Whitmer, Kevin Kunnen, Greg Frazier, Dale
Pritchard, Matt Haskins, Chris Oginsky, Jason Wolf, Aaron Cashen, Angie
Jablonski, and Jeff Molnar.
We also started our first-ever Cadet program in October 2009
with 3 new cadets ranging in age from 16 to 18.
U.S. 6 is the major highway running through the North half of the township.
We also have a major CSX dual track railroad running through Teegarden that can
see over 100 trains travel daily. Our area also contains a bulk LP facility
with two 30,000 storage tanks. Polk Township is the home of the beautiful
Swan Lake Golf Resort and the
US Golf Academy with 2 championship
golf courses, over 20,000 square feet of elegant dining, banquet
facilities, and deluxe accommodations.
